about

Once upon a time Josh Dolgin was an uber-nerd and Yiddophile freshly graduated from McGill University. He performed magic tricks, drew cartoons, was a part time Klezmer accordionist and made curiously fresh beats in his basement apartment. Those beats were the basis of a little known CDR gem called The Hip Hop Seder. It was sloppy and unrefined but possessed the kind of raw intrigue and genre bending madness to make his mother forgive him for not going to graduate school.

The premise was simple; conduct a mini hip hop symphony filled with old Jewish samples centered around the theme of the Passover Seder (it's what Jews do around Easter time to celebrate the exodus from Egypt) shmear it with a little love and create what some have hailed as “one of the greatest works of Jewish music in years.”

What was once a twinkle of an idea is now a fully orchestrated (and rapped) album. Now titled THE SO CALLED SEDER: A HIP HOP HAGGADAH, it's newly produced, recorded and mastered in NYC. Features cameos by Wu Tang Clan's Killah Priest, Matisyahu, Mr. Bungle's Trevor Dunn, Montreal's queen of country Katie Moore, David Krakauer, Susan and Elaine Hoffman Watts, and more.
